Marketplace rules and best practices

Modified on Fri, 24 Apr at 4:53 PM

The Airtm Marketplace is where users perform P2P (peer-to-peer) transactions. It's one of the main ways to buy and sell (add and withdraw) USDC on the platform. You can access a global marketplace with users and cashiers from over 190 countries and more than 400 available payment methods.

Who is who in Airtm?

  • User: any person with an Airtm account.
  • Cashier: a verified user who has completed additional verification processes and can accept P2P transactions. Cashiers have their own "I'm a Cashier" panel.

Third-party transfers

A third-party transfer occurs when someone uses a payment method or account registered under another person's information. For example, a user withdrawing funds to a bank account that doesn't belong to them.

Third-party transfers are only allowed for withdraw funds transactions when the user explicitly selects that the account belongs to a third party. Add funds transactions from third parties are prohibited.

How to detect third-party transfers

  • The bank account provided belongs to someone else.
  • The account name doesn't match the counterparty's Airtm account name.
  • The counterparty suggests using a different payment method than the one listed in the request.

What to do when you detect a third-party transfer attempt

  • Cancel the transaction as soon as you notice the inconsistency, especially if you haven't made the payment yet.
  • Return the payment and cancel if you already received funds from an account that doesn't match. Return to the same source account and inform the counterparty.
  • Contact the mediation team within the transaction if you need help resolving the case.
  • Appeal the transaction if you've already made the payment. The support team will review and resolve the case.

Risks of allowing third-party transfers

  • Exposure to refund requests.
  • Your bank account could be frozen.
  • You may not receive the funds or cryptocurrency involved in the transaction.

Other best practices

  • Be courteous with your counterparty. Rude or discriminatory behavior is not allowed.
  • Always double-check the user's details before each step.
  • Confirm that funds are correctly deposited in your account before completing your part of the transaction.
  • Process transactions as quickly as possible within the time limit for the payment method.
  • Stay alert to email and in-app notifications.
  • Don't log out while a transaction is in progress.
  • Payment triangulation is prohibited. Completing payments from unregistered accounts triggers mediation and penalties.

Mediation process

Mediation is the process in which Airtm's support team intervenes to resolve a conflict in a P2P transaction. It starts when one party confirms they sent funds but the other doesn't confirm receipt, or when the transaction isn't completed within the time limit.

Steps:

  1. Understand the issue: the team evaluates the situation and both users' arguments.
  2. Resolve the issue: the team defines the resolution process based on the transaction type and the conflict.
  3. Decision: the team guides the affected user through mediation and closes the transaction. If misconduct is found or insufficient evidence is presented, the transaction is canceled.
